ABOUT
It’s not okay to let towns fade away.
All over the United States, high schools close when rural populations drop. It’s called “consolidation” by administrators and it’s decided by crunching the numbers, but what it means in real life is that these community hubs, that had brought people together for sports games, school plays, and PTA nights, are no longer. What happens next is that towns die.

That’s what happened when Calhoun County High in Grantsville, West Virginia was shut and abandoned in 1998. But it’s not okay to just let towns fade away.
We are not wasting any time!
We are moving ahead quickly on construction efforts. An intensive focus has been on the gym so that we will have a huge indoor space for community events as well as for athletic activities, summer camps, etc., up and running as soon as possible.
Construction of the community pool will begin as soon as The 1982 Foundation has the right to build on the land. We had hoped to be further ahead on the pool by now, but were held up by land conveyance issues.
That slow-down only galvanized the community even more and inspired the leaders of “Raising Houners” to post on TikTok and organize a “Let it Go, Let it Grow” peaceful protest outside the Calhoun Courthouse. The Class of 1982 has such wonderful memories of summers by the pool when we were growing up and we are so very excited to reinstall the pool so our youth of today can build their own memories!
